Aarattupuzha Pooram

Aarattupuzha Pooram- The famous Ayyappa temple at Aarattupuzha is just 14 kms south of Thrissur town. The 'Arattupuzha Pooram' celebrated on the Malayalam month 'Meenam' (March) is famous and hundreds of elephants participate in this festival ,bearing bright colored umbrellas and parasols, presenting a supreme spectacle. Arattupuzha Pooram is the oldest and the most spectacular of the pooram festivals of Kerala. It is believed that on this day a hundred and one gods and goddesses of the neighbouring villages visited Sree Ayyappan, the presiding deity of the Arattupuzha Temple. Panchavadyam, nadaswaram, pacharimelam and pandimelam add to the festive tempo. The arattu (holy bath of the idol of the diety) ritual is performed with great pomp and gaiety in the arattupuzha river on the following day. Arattupuzha temple is open 05:00 - 09:30 am & 05:00 - 07:00 pm.


Athirapilly- The scenic beauty of Athirapilly waterfalls presents a spectacular visual extravagance to visitors. A very popular picnic spot, Athirapilly is located close to Chalakudy in Kerala. Bible Tower

rai ranchodji Bible Tower;- The Bible Tower, situated in Thrissur, Kerala is the tallest church tower in Asia. It can be seen from anywhere in the Thrissur town. The tower, which is about 260 feet tall, was inaugurated on January 7, 2007. His Excellency Most Reverend Dr Pedro Lopez Quintana dedicated the Bible tower for World Peace. The foundation stone of the Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Dolours was laid on 21 December 1929, by Mar Francis Vazhappilly, the Late Bishop of Thrissur. Another bell tower in the back of the church reaches 79.248 meters (260 feet). Renowned artists of the whole India have contributed their works in the Bible Tower. It is the first known Christian art gallery in Kerala. A passenger lift is available up to 48.768 meters (160 feet), where a viewers' platform has been made to accommodate up to 250 people. The viewers have to climb the steps from there to the top of the tower, has facilities for viewing the city over an area of 18 kilometers. The building has been certified as earthquake-proof by officials of the Geology Department of India.

Chavakkad Beach

Chavakkad Beach- lying on the coast of Arabian Sea and situated 5 km from Guruvayoor, one of the best beaches along the West coast with coconut bordered sea-shore is a pleasing view of rare natural beauty entice and attract thousands of tourists. Fringed shadow of coconut lagoons and the mesmerizing atmosphere make Chavakkad Beach a tourist spot throughout the year. Chavakkad Beach is the place where the sea confluences with a river. This meeting of the sea with the river is known as Azhimokam in Kerela. The beaches at Chavakkad and Nattika are simply wonderful. The famous mural paintings are another fascination of the place.

Lourdes Cathedral

rai ranchodji Lourdes Cathedral- Thrissur district was under the control of Dutch and British invaders. During their period they had created several beautiful churches, an example is the Lourdes Cathedral. One of the largest churches in Kerala, is located in the heart of Thrissur town in the state of Kerala, South India. Dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, the church is noted for its imposing interior. Main attraction is an underground shrine which is a masterpiece of architectural designing. Fr John Maliekkal is said to have planned and constructed this church. The exterior of this church features an Indo-European facade with pink spires. The Centenary of this church was celebrated during the historic visit of Pope John Paul II to Thrissur in 1986. The Cathedral church attracts thousands of pilgrims every month.

Punnathur kotta

Punnathur kotta -This is the Elephant park near Sree Krishna Temple at Guruvayoor, 34km from Thrissur. Punnathurkotta was once the palace of a local ruler, but the palace grounds are now used to house the elephants belonging to the Guruvayoor temple, and has been renamed Anakkotta (meaning "Elephant Fort"). There are currently 86 elephants housed there. The elephants are ritual offerings made by the devotees of Lord Guruvayurappa.
This facility is also used to train the elephants to serve Lord Krishna as well as participate in many festivals that occur throughout the year. Here one can see elephants of all ages including very small ones to old ones. The visiting hours are 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.

Vadanapilly Beach

Vazhani Dam

Vazhani Dam - Vazhani, one of the biggest clay dams in Kerala with a length of 792.48 metres, is situated 23 km from Thrissur. This water is used mainly for irrigation and drinking purposes. This project in Thrissur district envisages construction of an earth dam built across the Vadakkancherry puzha, The project was completed during the year 1962. Vazhani dam and its garden is a splendid spectacular view. It is one of the tourist attraction of Thrissur district.
